Travel tips: brush roll

Travel tips: brush roll

When I’m traveling I always bring at least some basic make-up items and for me that means bringing some brushes too. I used to be not that careful with my brushes, but now I own a couple of Mac and Inglot brushes and I don’t want to damage them. A couple of brands sell brush rolls to store your brushes and keep them in shape, but I made my own!

Travel tips: brush roll

A brush roll allows you to place brushes with different sizes in special pockets. Then you fold over the top part and roll it up. I though it would be a perfect way to pack my brushes for weekend trips and longer vacations. Off course you can buy a brush roll. Mac and Sigma are selling them for example. But if you like DIY projects, you can make one yourself.

You need a piece of fabric like canvas, thread in the same color, a sewing machine and a ribbon or leather lace. The roll consist out of three parts. The part on which the brushes are laying, the part thats creating the pockets in which you put the brushes and the flap to put over the top part of the brushes. I’don’t remember how I made mine exactly, but it’s important to make sure that the first part is a little bit higher than the length of your largest brush. Otherwise the flap wont fold over your brushes properly.

Whats nice about making your own brush roll is that you can make your favorite brushes fit in the pockets perfectly. Do you want to take a lot of brushes with big handles? Make bigger pockets. Do you only bring a couple of eyeshadow brushes? A smaller brush roll with tiny pockets will be enough.

Do you own a brush roll?
